Big Sur 4/20/12

Ever since my first Big Sur trip I have wanted to get back. This time I drove instead of flying. If you are driving up from SoCal take the 101 to San Luis Obispo and then go north on PCH. For the return trip I tried driving thru Monterey and down the 5 but it took much longer. I preferred flying in and renting a car, it was much more relaxing.

I sped up PCH to reach the Bixby bridge before the sunset. I wanted a long exposure to smooth out the water so I used a Hoya 3 stop ND filter combined with a 3 stop soft edge graduated neutral density filter. The filter was held in place with a Cokin Z-pro filter holder. The entire setup was placed on a Manfrotto tripod. Available to order as a print.

Big Sur
The setup: Canon 40d, Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS, Hoya 3 stop ND filter, Coking Z-pro filter holder, 3 stop soft edge ND filter, Manfrotto tripod
The settings: f22, 2.5s, iso200 with highlight tone priority enabled
To order: buy me

Big Sur
I first tried shooting this one at f8 and I did not get the sun burst. I closed down the aperture to f22 and got the star effect on the sun. A 3 stop hard edge ND filter was also used. Order this one as a photographic print on metallic paper.

Big Sur, CA
I printed this one on a metallic paper. The yellow and gold tones really glow when the light hits it. To order your own print hit the link.

I usually don't shoot shallow depth of field pics when I'm out shooting landscapes but I liked the way this one came out. Purchase here.
